KIParla is a publicly accessible corpus of spoken Italian that currently consists of 100 hours of audio-recorded and transcribed discourse in various types of situations and is designed to be expanded by further modules. In the workshop, Caterina Mauri and Silvia Ballarè (University of Bologna) presented this resource and discussed the KIParla case as an example of open research data in linguistics. The invited speakers dialogued with Lorenza Mondada (University of Basel) in the role of discussant and engaged in a more general discussion with the audience about practices and challenges related to data collection, storage, sharing and reuse in the study of talk-in-interaction.

The event was organised by Johanna Miecznikowski (USI) on behalf of CHORD-Talk-in-interaction and addressed a public of researchers in interactional linguistics and neighbouring fields and, more generally, of researchers in the humanities who are interested in the topic of open data. It took place on Friday, April 28, 2023, 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm, in the main building of USI Lugano, West Campus, room 253, and online via Zoom. On site participants were invited to a small networking reception after the workshop.
